Proposal 1
The benefits of proposal one are that it has a full glass front supported by a steel frame facing south to maximise sunlight and the sedum roof. This also allows the building to fit in with the surroundings whilst displaying a modern structure. However, a disadvantage is more heat will leave the building in winter due to the full glass front.
Proposal 2
An advantage of this proposal is the photovoltaic solar pannels as they not only harness sunlight to be used as energy but as they are transparent they can be used as windows. Another advantage is the ground source heat pump as this heats up water and after a certain amount of time pays for itself despite being an expensive initial installment. However, a disadvantage is that it not all the windows are south facing, therefore not maximising the amount of sunlight that is able to enter the building. The structure is modern and unusual therefore standing out from its surroundings, which some nearby residents may complain about. |
I have decided to incorporate elements from both buildings to create it more sustainably, however, most I will use the general structure of proposal one as there was a more positive overall response and not as many disadvantages were noticed.
