Feedback from my peers has helped me to evaluate my building.
Strengths of the building:
1. Aesthetic - the building fits into the surrounding, yet slightly stands out due to its modern aesthetic.
2. Accessibility - the building is very easy to access with all modes of transport as it is fortunately situated next to the main road and there are many footpaths for pedestrians.
3. Space - due to the open plan interior of the building the amount of space is maximised and also allows users to navigate the building easily.
Weaknesses of the building:
1. Sustainability - more sustainable features could have been incorporated allowing the building to be more energy efficient for example a ground source heat pump.
2. Location - the building could have been positioned somewhere else in the park to make access even easier for users and help increase solar gain.
3. Materials - rather than using regular glass I could have used mirrored glass to give the building more privacy from the general public whilst making it appealing to them so that they will wonder what is inside.
I have used many types of data to construct my building:
- I used a questionnaire to collect information about the building that I am to build
- I used the SPONS book to access information about the cost of the build
- I used FormIt to produce an energy and sun analysis and to see the running costs of the building.
