Have all users been considered?
All users have been considered in the design of my building as there are disabled parking spaces and the double automatic door allows easy access that is wide enough for a wheelchair into the building. There are no stairs and no curb to enter the building, therefore a ramp wasn't required. All of the toilets are wide enough for the less able to access and are conveniently located on the ground floor. As the building is open plan there is ample space to move around.
Can users navigate the building safely and easily?
Users who are requiring to access the second and third floor have to walk up the stairs that have a handrail that act as a barrier to prevent users from falling and also to aid them up the stairs. Users can navigate the building easily due to it being open plan and shouldn't need specialist assistance. All corridors are wide enough to allow wheelchairs through, the toilets are wide enough for wheelchairs and the doors to enter the building are automatic and are double doors so that users in wheelchairs can enter easily, without requiring assistance.
What specialist features will the client need help maintaining?
My client will need help to maintain the glass front to keep it clean as it may get dirty regularly. Also, if a problem arises with the timber cladding rotting then specialist assistance will be required. The sedum roof will also need maintaining, however, the client will be able to do this easily.
How can the client ensure that the building is energy efficient?
To ensure the building is energy efficient the client should use minimal artificial lighting and only when required. The client should also display signs around the building to encourage recycling as there will be recycling bins for plastic, paper, cans and glass. Also, the taps in the bathroom are motion sensor as are the handdryers and lights. The toilets are dual flush, saving water and all lights are LED.
