Encountering & Solving Problems
One of the main issues that occurred was that the gap between the exterior wall and the shop wall was too small to fit a flight of stairs in. To solve this issue I consulted my REVIT model and moved the shop wall an extra few centimeters to fit the stairs in.
Another problem was the interior artificial lighting as in REVIT I was unable to rotate the lights by 90 degrees therefore I explained this problem to my teacher and she explained how to solve this problem. Hence, I was able to position the lights in the way that my client requested.
Communicating Problems
I communicated these problems with my team via telephone so that the quantity surveyor could recalculate the cost of this change and the construction team through a briefing of the new plan and uploaded the new document to show the changes on One Drive.
Asking for Advice
In November 2016, land surveyors from Laing O'Rourke came and helped me to set up the equipment that was used to survey the area of Aireville Park that pleased my client to construct the building there. They helped to upload the coordinates of the building site so I could place my building on site later on in the proccess.
REVIT specialists also came into school to help start up the build and give tutorials. They helped me to place my current REVIT model onto the site and showed me how to change the material of the roof to grass.
A local architect visited school to give a presentation about women in architecture, BIM and his journey to becoming an architect.
I also traveled to Wakefield to visit the Hepworth Museum to learn more about the structure of buildings.
My teacher also assisted me with REVIT and the light and energy analysis.
Review of Design
I asked for feedback from my peers, client, friends and family to ask for their opinions on the design of my building. Their feedback helped me to improve my design and on which elements I would keep the same if I redid my project. One of the main things was to use outside space by putting in some tables and benches for people to sit on instead of inside the café when the weather is nice and also for there to be a better quality air conditioning unit. The element that they all seemed to particularly like was the aesthetic of the building and use of sustainable materials so the glass wall, sedum roof and timber cladding.
"I really like the aesthetic of this building and it seems like it would fit the function of a bouldering centre really well." - Cara Dunlop
"A wonderful modern feel and it fits in perfectly with its surroundings in Aireville Park, Skipton" - Verity Clay
Developing the Project Within the Time and Budget
To allow me to complete the project within the allocated time and budget I created a Gantt Chart which I stuck to every week in order to keep to the deadlines that my teacher. I allocated longer periods of time for sections of the project that were more challenging or that I estimated would take longer to complete due to the size of the task.

To keep to budget I created a costings plan that was very cheap in comparison to the budget to ensure that I didn't overspend. To help me work out the cost of the build I used the SPONS book as it told me the current price of how much the construction would cost per square meter. As I was incredibly under budget going slightly over the price that was originally set wasn't an issue as more money could be spent on the interior and if there was a mistake it could be rectified more easily.
